I don't like the little box of information on the back of the packaged food we eat. I like that it tells me the ingredients because that makes me bar myself from eating a butt load of things, especially junk food. However I just don't feel that the information on the back of most packaged food is very helpful.
My Taste Buds
I lack bitter taste buds, I don't mean that figuratively. I literally mean I cannot taste bitter. Which explains why I eat and drink a lot of bitter things and why cough medicine always tasted really sweet to me. I am mentioning this because I have a very big appreciation for how food tastes by itself, with no additives or toppings. I hate dressing, my ideal salad is plain leafy green stuff. I can appreciate the deep rich flavor of different greens.
That being said, I can also taste when something is unnatural or fake. I can pick up the taste of fake sugar easily. I can also pick up the taste of Hydrogenated oils or fats also known as trans fats. These things have a very specific flavor which I can only describe as fake. It doesn't taste like butter, and it feels as if I have a oil or grease in my mouth. It isn't natural. You can do a creepy experiment with these things, I first noticed it with fudge rounds. A type of butter cookie robed in fudge, with a fudge bottom from Walmart. The fudge on the cookie would never melt. When you would touch it, it would just feel greasy. if you left it out for long it would begin to sweat... or at least it appeared that way. There was condensation forming on it which is creepy. This product has transfat in it and after learning that, I learned what it tasted like.
Nutrition Facts
I don't like these facts because I think they are misleading when it comes to certain foods. For example, I'd swear nuts were worse for you than a tub of lard based on what I have read on those panels. I don't think it is fair that we can really say something has X amount of calories if the quality of those calories are not equal. That being said an example would be:
Peanuts
If you look at the panel for those and compare them, you would swear that it was bad for you.
I think there should just be a system of points that describe how good or bad something is for me in addition to the break down on nutrition. It is hard to decide when something as harmless as nuts seem to have more calories and fat than a goddamn donut.
